Hi there! I’m Emma Barnett.

I’m a literacy specialist, tutor, and former elementary teacher who knows how overwhelming teaching reading can be. During my first year in the classroom, I realized quickly that my district’s balanced literacy curriculum was not going to work for my kids. So, I began learning everything I could about the science of reading and eventually went on to earn my master’s degree in literacy.

I know how it feels when you’re doing your best but fighting a broken system. I know how challenging it is when the standards don’t match what your students can do right now. I know how time-consuming and frustrating it can be to search for resources that will work just to end up spending hours creating your own.

But, I also know how rewarding it is to see reading “click” for students! There’s no better feeling than watching a child suddenly decode that multisyllabic word, apply that reading strategy, or write a complete sentence for the first time.

That’s why I’m so passionate about structured literacy. I want to empower teachers and parents with the tools and knowledge they need so that every child can become a confident reader and writer. My goal is to save you time, make the science of reading simpler, and engage your struggling readers!
